چکیده

Understanding which characteristics of dynamic stimuli affect visual attention is crucial to usability research. We explored how object location and object luminosity differentially affect visual attention. Thirty-seven American participants viewed 34 Australian commercials, which were broken down by scene (N = 606) to identify all pertinent Areas of Interest (NAOIs = 2,695). Each AOI was subsequently coded for location and median luminosity. Luminosity was positively associated with attention capture (β = .12, p < .001), but negatively associated with sustaining attention (β = −.06, p < .000). Higher (β = .04, p < .000) or lower contrast with the immediate background (β = .03, p < .000) led to longer fixations, and central loca‐ tion drew visual attention (β = .49, p < .001) and sustained it (β = .19, p < .001) more than other locations. Our results show that object location and luminosity affect visual attention during dynamic stimuli, and likely influence subsequent cognitive or behavioral interaction with those objects.

Receptive Field Encoding Model for Dynamic Natural Vision

Introduction: Encoding models are used to predict human brain activity in response to sensory stimuli. The purpose of these models is to explain how sensory information represent in the brain. Convolutional neural networks trained by images are capable of encoding magnetic resonance imaging data of humans viewing natural images. Considering the hemodynamic response function, these networks are ...

Dynamic Meshing Characteristics of Elliptic Cylinder Gear Based on Tooth Contact Analysis

As the most important working area of gear, teeth play the role of transmitting load and power. Tooth line and tooth profile are the two main characteristics of the tooth surface, which affect the shape of the tooth surface, tooth meshing characteristics and contact characteristics. Taking the elliptical cylinder gear pair in the reversing device of a new type of drum pumping unit as the resear...

Influence of Sudden Column Loss on Dynamic Response of Steel Moment Frames under Blast Loading

Modeling buildings response to blast and subsequent progressive collapse interested more and more researchers during the past two decades. Due to the threat from extreme loading, efforts have been made to develop methods of structural analysis and design. In this paper, progressive collapse capacity of steel moment frames was first investigated using alternate load path method, then a nonlinear...

Visualizing fMRI BOLD responses to diverse naturalistic scenes using retinotopic projection.

To view brain activity in register with visual stimuli, a technique here referred to as "retinotopic projection," which translates functional measurements into retinotopic space, is employed. Retinotopic projection is here first applied to a previously acquired fMRI dataset in which a large set of grayscale photos of real scenes were presented to three subjects. A simple model of local contrast...

Changes in cortical oscillations linked to multisensory modulation of nociception.

Pain can be modulated by several contextual factors. For example, simply viewing one's own body can reduce pain, suggesting that the visual context may influence the processing of nociceptive stimuli. We studied changes in electroencephalographic (EEG) oscillatory activity related to visual modulation of nociception, comparing cortical oscillations during innocuous or noxious contact heat, whil...
